“Ari Yovel is my favorite Jewish educator. I met them in Torah study, where they always provide insightful commentary. They have a knack for helping people make spiritual connections to each other, to themselves, and to the Torah.

I was incredibly fortunate this year to be invited to a virtual Rosh Hashanah ritual that they created for a small group of us who were isolated this year due to the pandemic. All of us were feeling the loss of in-person services and celebrations for the High Holidays. Ari’s ritual--based on the Unetaneh Tokef, and giving voice to our collective grief and anxieties at the time--was exactly what the moment required.”

“Ari set the tone for what it meant to be a minority in our 1000+ theater community.

They established, first, an advocacy group for neurodivergent cast members, empowering folks in our community to speak up for their accessibility needs and educating allies about how to support neurodiversity in their casts. This was the model that the black cast members used to establish a similar group and with Ari’s help, produced a 5-year antiracism plan.

They have also helped establish safe spaces for minority groups regarding religion, ethnicity, and gender. Their brave first gathering has fundamentally changed our culture for the better.”

“Ari Yovel has a passion for scholarship twinned with a sense of humor and down-to-earth metaphor which makes their facilitated study, worship and stories come alive with meaning. Ari's work within the LGBTQI+ community as an insider brings religion alive to an audience who may have felt excluded from traditional forms of worship. Most importantly, Ari conveys their lived experience as a practitioner with humor, passion and immediacy, bringing the ineffable alive and among us in the moment -- a rare gift.”
